We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Head of Engineering who is also a hands-on technical leader. This is a critical "player-coach" role for an individual who is passionate about innovation, deeply understands scalable product development, and is excited by the potential of AI to be at the core of all our processes.
You will be responsible for guiding and inspiring the technical direction of our products, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and actively mentoring a team of talented engineers to build groundbreaking solutions that directly support our mission.
System Architecture: System Architecture Design, implement and support scalable architecture using containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), API gateways, and event-driven patterns to support high-availability SaaS products.
AI/ML Implementation: Leverage AI/ML, including code agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, to accelerate product delivery, improve stability, and enable new personalization capabilities. This covers faster UI delivery through AI-assisted design workflows, AI-driven test generation for end-user and admin interfaces, rapid feature implementation such as embossing and engraving, and applying AI to documentation, code analysis, and legacy system modernization.
DevOps & Infrastructure: Operate and scale infrastructure on bare-metal servers orchestrated with Rancher and Kubernetes, using Helm charts for deployment automation. Implement CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, integrate observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana), and explore AI-driven agents and MCP integrations to enhance reliability, automate testing, and optimize build and deployment workflows.
Technical Team Leadership: Mentor and guide engineers in distributed systems, cloud-native practices, and AI-assisted development. Encourage adoption of code agents and MCP-based workflows for tasks such as UI delivery, automated testing, and documentation. Build a culture of continuous learning, scalability, and innovation while ensuring cross-functional collaboration between backend, frontend, and infrastructure teams.
Security & Compliance: Design secure API architectures with OAuth 2.0/JWT authentication and enforce strong secrets management practices across all services. Ensure compliance with GDPR/SOC2 and embed security best practices into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure management, and day-to-day engineering operations.
Advanced Technical Leadership: 7+ years of hands-on software development with 3+ years leading engineering teams through complex challenges, including distributed systems, high-concurrency SaaS applications, and AI-assisted development workflows.
AI/ML & Code Agents: Practical experience with AI code agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) to accelerate delivery, improve test coverage, and modernize legacy systems. Familiarity with MLOps pipelines, model deployment strategies, and real-time inference for personalization, recommendation, or computer vision use cases.
Full-Stack Proficiency: Strong expertise in backend technologies (Python, Go, Node.js), frontend frameworks (React, Liquid), and database optimization (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis). Skilled in deploying and scaling systems on bare-metal servers orchestrated with Rancher, Kubernetes, and Helm, with CI/CD pipelines built on GitHub Actions.
Distributed Systems Expertise: Proven track record designing fault-tolerant microservices, implementing event-driven architectures, and optimizing distributed systems for horizontal scalability and low-latency performance.
E-commerce & Personalization Tech: Experience integrating with e-commerce platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento) and building systems for personalization, real-time rendering, or product customization.
Technical Communication: Can architect complex systems, optimize application performance, document technical decisions, conduct code reviews, and translate technical constraints into business impact for non-technical stakeholders.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Backend: Python (Django, FastAPI), Go, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes
Frontend: React, Liquid, modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks for admin and theme extensions
AI/ML & Automation: AI code agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), scikit-learn, basic ML workflows for personalization, testing, and documentation automation
Infrastructure: Bare-metal servers orchestrated with Rancher and Kubernetes, Helm charts for deployment automation, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Prometheus & Grafana for observability
Integration: REST/GraphQL APIs, Webhook systems, third-party e-commerce APIs (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento)
